MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – One person was killed and three others were hospitalized Sunday morning after a shooting at a Marlboro County nightclub, according to Acting Marlboro County Sheriff Larry McNeil.
Deputies were called around 2:30 a.m. to The Spot Bar & Lounge nightclub on Highway 15-401 East near Bennettsville, according to the sheriff’s office. A photo from a News13 crew on site shows at least 20 evidence markers scattered around the parking lot. One of the markers bears the number 71.
A News13 team at the scene said other evidence markers were scattered around the back of the pitch. Bags of evidence covered the tailgate of a truck.
The Spot Bar & Lounge is across from Marlboro County High School.
McNeil said no arrests have been made. The sheriff’s office said more information will be released on Monday.
The name of the person killed has not been released.
Jack Logan, the founder of statewide advocacy group Put the Guns Now Young People, said he plans to appear before Marlboro County Council to ask authorities to shut down The Spot until until an investigation reveals that it complies with all laws and regulations. .
“I was shocked by the number of shootings in the Pee Dee nightclubs,” he said.
“I’d rather try to silence them to do good than ask a mother or father to go to the morgue to despise their son or daughter,” Logan said.
