Arrested suspect, charged with incident at 2521 Main Street – City of Houston

Houston police arrested a suspect charged with assaulting a Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy following an incident at 2521 Main Street around 1:10 a.m. Thursday, September 22.

Jamie Rook-Perez, 21, is charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer in the state’s 228th District Court. A photo of Rook-Perez is attached to this press release.

A Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputy who discharged his weapon was injured and transported to an area hospital.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives H. Le, D. Hammons, M. Childs, and C. King reported:

Two Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies were working extra jobs at a nightclub at the above address investigating a car theft in the parking lot when two men, identified as possible suspects, walked out of the club. Deputies observed one of the suspects attempt to enter a black Dodge Challenger. As deputies attempted to arrest him, the second suspect, later identified as Rook-Perez, entered an orange Dodge Hellcat SRT and revved the engine.

A deputy attempted to arrest Rook-Perez as he attempted to flee in the vehicle. He hit the deputy with the vehicle and pinned his leg against another parked vehicle. The pinned deputy discharged his gun, hitting Rook-Perez in the hand. Rook-Perez then attempted to flee, hitting several cars and a gate that surrounded the pitch.

Deputies detained Rook-Perez and paramedics transported him to an area hospital, where he was treated and released. The injured MP was also taken to hospital and later released with minor injuries.

The second suspect, described only as a Hispanic male with braids, fled the scene on foot.

As is customary in shootings involving officers within the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect sought for questioning in this case is asked to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
