Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has told a woman he is accused of attempting to rape that her boyfriend said it would be ‘okay’ if they had sex, a source has claimed. court.

Mendy said it was only now that he understood why the young woman had gotten upset then, it was learned from her rape trial at Chester Crown Court.

The 28-year-old Premier League star sat in the witness box as Eleanor Laws KC, his lawyer, began to tell him about the first of nine allegations he faces involving six different women .

The first woman to accuse him of sex offenses was then 29 and visited his home, named The Spinney, which was described as a remote mansion in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, in October 2018.

She told the jury Mendy tried to rape her on a bed when he made it clear she was only interested in her boyfriend, who was one of the footballer’s friends, not him .

Mendy, the wife and others had already been out clubbing in Manchester before spending the night at the footballer’s house.

The woman was sleeping in a bedroom with her boyfriend.

Mendy said the morning after asking his friend how he would feel if he tried to have sex with her.

The footballer, speaking with a heavy French accent, told the jury: “I realize it’s disrespectful and wrong, I asked him if it was okay if I tried to have relations sex with her. He said yes.”

Mendy said he went to the bedroom where she was taking a shower and told her she was “sexy”.

Wearing just a towel, the woman flirted with him, he said, and then they started touching.

“Then I ask him if we can have sex. Then, ‘no, because of my boyfriend,'” to which Mendy told her, ‘He was okay with that.’

Mendy continued: “She started to get upset. I said, ‘You can ask her if you want?’ She continued to be upset.”

He said he then left the bedroom and went back down to the living room.

Ms Laws, defending, asked Mendy: ‘Do you understand, now, why she could have been upset?’

“Now yes,” Mendy replied.

After the woman got off, Mendy said she couldn’t get a taxi, so she arranged for her driver to take her to a train station so she could go home.

Mendy was also asked about a comment he made the night before when they were all drinking and dancing in the nightclub.

He said the woman flirted with him and while dancing with her boyfriend, he whispered to her, “I’m going to kidnap you.”

Mendy said it was just a “joke,” adding, “The vibe was good. Good vibes.”

Prosecutors say Mendy is a ‘predator’ who ‘turned the pursuit of women for sex into a game’, while co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie was allegedly tasked with finding young women for sex, which Maturia denies.

Mendy denies seven counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault against six young women.

Matturie, 41, from Eccles, Salford, denies six counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving seven young women.

The trial continues.
