Crime Stoppers push to solve fatal shooting outside East Side bar – 614NOW

The Central Ohio Crime Stoppers are stepping up their efforts to find the perpetrator of a homicide.

In the group’s most recent Crime of the Week – a recurring segment that aims to put unsolved crimes back in the spotlight – the death of 21-year-old Dalan Wellman is featured.

Wellman was fatally shot on July 26, 2020, on the patio of the Story Lounge, an East Side bar and nightclub located at 1450 E. 5th Ave.

At approximately 2:12 a.m. on the day of the incident, Columbus police patrol officers observed multiple gunshots near the intersection of E. 5th Avenue and Joyce Avenue.

Witnesses directed officers to respond to Wellman, who had been shot in the head, as several other witnesses attempted to transport the 21-year-old to a local hospital. Columbus Fire and medics then took Wellman to Grant Medical Center, where he was treated for the gunshot, but later died.

Police believe four suspects were involved in the incident and the individuals used a 2012 Ford Fusion in the crime. They allegedly walked past the Story Lounge’s outdoor terrace and opened fire, hitting Wellman and another passerby in the arm. The second victim eventually recovered.

A cash reward is offered for information that leads to the arrest or indictment of those responsible for Wellman’s death. If you have information about the crime, contact Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477. You can also submit a report through the Crime Stoppers website or the P3 Tips mobile app.
