Galway City Council to review ‘red light’ cameras to catch motorists – Connacht Tribune – Galway City Tribune:

Planning work for the demolition of the Clan Stand at the sports ground is set to begin, but it will be replaced with a state-of-the-art 7,000-capacity structure which will consist of a mix of standing, seated and hospitality options.

Connacht Rugby announced this week that it is set to kick off phase two of the Sportsground redevelopment, a phase which from start to finish is expected to take over 30 months.

The first phase of the works involved replacing the grass pitch with a new synthetic surface, as well as a new LED floodlighting system, which is due to be installed next month.

This next phase of the multimillion-euro project will include the construction of a High Performance Center (HPC) and a new North Stand to replace the Clan Stand.

Connacht Rugby are set to open the public procurement process – an effective tender for the works – a process which it says will take around six months, with a two-year construction program set to begin next year.

Work will begin with the construction of the HPC, which will include a new indoor training ground as well as state-of-the-art athlete and staff facilities. Once this is complete, work will begin on the new stand, which is currently expected to be completed in time for the 2025/26 season.
