Once upon a time, to enjoy the warm tropical air and scenic sunsets atop Fiola Miami, you had to pay a subscription.
Now, the outdoor terrace above the Italian restaurant in Coral Gables, the third location for owner-chef Fabio Trabocchi’s brand, has been reclaimed and renovated and is officially open to the public.
The new La Terrazza, which can accommodate 80 seated and 150 standing, was closed for renovations for a few months, but the wait was worth it. There’s a new retractable roof — ideal for humid summer evenings — and a new sound system.
The space is separate from the main Fiola doors, accessed through a private entrance with its own valet.
When you arrive at the rooftop, expect a new menu highlighting specialties that reflect Fiola’s affinity for regional Italian cuisine: crudos, raw sea bass, seafood dishes, antipasti and a variety of meat dishes.
Created by Executive Chef Danny Ganem, the menu includes tuna tartare; Cuscino Panino with porchetta, prosciutto, cacciocavallo, pickled cucumbers, mustard and aioli; whole wheat rigatoni with bolognese sauce and stuffed mushrooms. You can also order a caviar service.
But La Terrazza is not just a restaurant. As is the rule these days, it’s also an elevated nightclub, with regular weekly lineups such as Cigar Night on Thursdays and Friday Sunset Happy Hour, which features live music from local musician Carlos Andrade and special drinks. Saturday night has a DJ spinning and Sunday is family night, with big-screen football games, kids’ movies, and comfort food like lasagna and meatballs. A jazz brunch will begin after the first of the year.
Craft cocktails include Las Hojas De Otoño (Volcan Tequila Blanco, fiery ginger, all-spice dram, citrus, and club soda) and When Pigs Can Fly (Angel’s Envy Bourbon grease-washed prosciutto and Vermont maple bitters).
As for those private memberships: they still exist and members get benefits (mainly the first shot of booking, especially at the start of high season in Miami, but also free valet parking and members-only seats during point in both restaurants).
