Man dies after altercation outside Kelowna nightclub

UPDATE: August 13, 6:00 p.m.

A man has died following an incident at a downtown Kelowna nightclub.

Kelowna RCMP were called to the 200 block of Lawrence Avenue around 11 p.m. on August 12, to find a man lying on the ground while another man ran away.

Emergency services transported the injured man to Kelowna General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

No one has yet been charged. The victim and the man who was seen fleeing the scene are not believed to have known each other before.

The case has been assigned to the Kelowna Major Crimes Unit, which continues to search for evidence in the area.

The victim is believed to be from the Lower Mainland.

Investigative Service Officer Beth McAndie said several people in the area who may have witnessed the incident have been identified.

“Investigators would like to talk to them. We encourage these witnesses to contact our investigators using our Tip Line 250-470-6236,” she said.

There was a heavy police presence at Kelowna’s Liquid Zoo nightclub around 1 a.m. on August 13.

Witnesses say an ambulance was on the scene. The severity of any injuries is not yet known.
