Nanaimo RCMP have issued a warning regarding several incidents of doped drinks at a number of nightclubs in the city.
Officers first became aware of the situation on May 6 when they saw paramedics tending to two people outside a nightclub who appeared extremely intoxicated.
Both had to be hospitalized.
Police determined that the pair may have ingested an intoxicating substance without their knowledge and later learned that up to six people may have had their drinks spiked on May 6 and 7.
“These situations can arise anytime and anywhere,” said Const. Gary O’Brien. “As a result, it is extremely important for clubgoers to be extremely mindful of their drinks.”
Police believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward.
They offer the following tips:
- Always keep your drink in sight.
- Never accept a drink from someone you don’t know.
- Ask someone to be in charge of your drink when you’re on the dance floor or in the bathroom.
- Alert your friends if you suddenly become dizzy, nauseous, or have trouble breathing.
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
