For those who tend to hang out with the darker crowd, a new bar is opening in Detroit that might hurt traditionalist cocktail boats. But that may be the goal of “The Black Salt,” a Witchcraft Cocktail Bar soon to open in Detroit. The bar clearly appeals to a particular crowd, which the owner says will give fellow Detroit-area residents a new place to call the hangout. Zoey Ashwood is an artist who conceived the idea and recently revealed what customers can expect from her new place of business:
Serving cocktails that emphasize the metaphysical and homeopathic properties of ingredients, we’ll mix drinks to evoke prosperity, attraction, break spells, open intuition, find clarity of mind, and much more. . Spirits and non-spirits will be made using locally sourced and filled ingredients, as well as homemade infusions, bitters and cordials. In addition, we will serve specialty coffee, tea and mineral waters. Bring your tarot cards, pendulums and divination tools, or borrow resources from the bar. Settle down on a comfortable Victorian sofa and enjoy our lounge atmosphere.
Interesting story behind the building
The Black Salt building located at 2763 Florian St. in Hamtramck has a history that dates back to the days of Prohibition where it would have doubled as a speak-easy and Real Estate building and over the years has been everything from a bar at a nightclub. There hasn’t been an open date yet but she’s aiming for this winter to open the doors. You can follow the progress of the bar here.
