Person in critical condition after fight outside Salt Lake City nightclub

SALT LAKE CITY — A person is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a fight broke out outside a Salt Lake City nightclub early Sunday morning.

Salt Lake City Police officials told FOX 13 News they received the call around 2 a.m. about a fight outside a nightclub in the 149 West neighborhood. Pierpont Ave.

Once at the scene, officers found more than a hundred people in the parking lot as nightclubs emptied for the night and observed fights breaking out between smaller groups.

“As our officers were trying to break everything down, they heard multiple gunshots in the area they were in,” Salt Lake City Police Department spokesman Brent Weisberg said. “It immediately forced their attention to try to figure out ‘did they have a shooter there?'”

After conducting a quick search, officers were able to locate one person, a 34-year-old female, on the ground with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Doctors were able to determine that she was not shot, but more likely struck by an unknown person during the fight.

No arrests have been made and the incident is still under investigation. The SLCPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to call them at 801-799-3000.
