SWAT team helps capture gunman wanted in bar shootout, 2nd suspect at large: Linden PD

Union County SWAT team helped capture a 27-year-old man accused of opening fire at a nightclub and injuring three people, while a second suspect remains at large, authorities said .

Najir Paige got into a fight at the Menga Lounge bar in Linden when he left, took a handgun from a car, returned and shot through the front door around 2am on Saturday August 6, a Linden police said.

A 28-year-old man, a 24-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman were injured in the attack.

Paige was arrested on August 24, when members of Union County SWAT, with assistance from the Linden Police Department, Union County District Attorney’s Office and the Bureau’s Crime Scene Unit of the Union County Sheriff, executed a search warrant at his home in East Orange.

He was charged with attempted first degree murder, second degree aggravated assault, second degree possession of a weapon and related felonies.

Paige was being held in Essex County Jail pending her Superior Court appearance. A second suspect, identified as Sharif Evans, 25 (pictured below), also from East Orange, has also been charged in connection with his role in the incident. Evans is still at large.
