A 21-year-old woman shot dead in a North Hill bar early Friday morning has died, Akron police said Saturday.

A suspect in the shooting, another 21-year-old woman who was shot by Akron police after she fled the scene around 3 a.m. Friday, remains in stable condition.

The shooting victim was identified Saturday by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office as Chyna Shepard of Akron.

Shepard was shot in a bathroom at Oasis Surf and Turf on North Howard Street. When police arrived to investigate, a patron of the establishment identified a woman he believed had shot Shepard.

Police chased her on foot north to a parking lot on Cuyahoga Falls Avenue, and during the chase she was shot by an officer, police said. She was seen with a handgun during the chase, police said.

The parking lot, at the former Liberty Harley-Davidson dealership at North Howard and Cuyahoga Falls Avenue, was blocked by police tape for hours. The property is now used as a convenience store and nightclub.

Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett said Friday the suspect was shot twice and fell to the ground, telling Beacon Journal media partner News 5 Cleveland that “officers saw what appeared to be being the suspect raising his arm in a shooting manner”.

Officers responded to provide first aid and a gun was found next to the woman, Mylett said.

She was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital and remained hospitalized on Saturday, police said. She is expected to recover from injuries that are not considered life threatening.

The officer involved in the shooting, a two-year veteran of the police department, was placed on administrative leave. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting involving an officer. A separate investigation will be conducted by the Police Service’s Office of Professional Standards and Accountability.

Shepard was shot during an altercation at the Oasis Surf and Turf, located near the intersection of North Howard Street and Tallmadge Avenue. The bar is located across from a Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken and a Family Dollar store, and one block west of Findlay CLC.

On June 19, a 38-year-old man who was shot multiple times died in front of the establishment. This shooting occurred during a fight involving several people.

City Attorney Craig Morgan said Friday he would meet with the bar owner and liquor licensee to discuss ongoing concerns about the establishment.

A spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office said an autopsy on Shepard would be completed by Monday.
